The EA manages an open cycle continuously — if it stops mid-cycle, it does not simply pause, it loses control of positions that are already in the market.
Positions are laddered and managed against levels the EA recalculates on every tick. Interrupt that mid-cycle and the EA comes back to a market that has moved without it — with an open ladder it never planned for. The damage isn't a missed entry; it's a half-managed position.
XAUUSD does its sharpest moves around news and the London/New York overlap. That is precisely when an overloaded home connection or a cheap shared server stalls. A few seconds of lag during a fast move is worse than not trading at all.
Windows updates, sleep mode, a power cut, a knocked-out cable, your ISP resetting overnight. Every one of these has ended somebody's month. A VPS removes all of them at once.
This is the single most common mistake. Sleep, updates, restarts and home broadband make it a matter of when, not if.
Oversold hosts share one physical CPU across far too many customers. It looks fine when the market is quiet and stalls under load — the worst possible failure pattern for this strategy.
MQL5's hosted VPS is built to migrate a chart and copy signals. It is a constrained environment, and we have seen it behave inconsistently with continuously-managing EAs. Use a real VPS you control.
One MT5 terminal watching one gold chart is not a heavy workload — it does not need a large server. What it does need is to be physically close to the broker's own trade server, because every entry, every ratchet and every close is a round-trip. A modest VPS in the same datacentre as your broker beats a much bigger one on the other side of the world, every time.
Latency is specific to your broker, not to a provider's marketing. FXVM publish a table of measured round-trip times from each of their datacentres to 150+ brokers — find yours, see which city is quickest for it, and order there. If your broker isn't listed, ask their support which datacentre their servers sit in.
An expired VPS is switched off with an open cycle still in the market, and the EA stops managing positions it had already opened. It is the same failure as a power cut, except the machine stays off until somebody logs in and pays. Most providers charge less per month on a twelve-month term, but the real reason is simpler: a monthly plan is twelve chances a year to miss a renewal, and a yearly one is a single chance. Whatever term you pick, leave auto-renew switched on and keep a working card on the account.
Several brokers provide a genuine VPS free above a certain balance, sitting in the same datacentre as their trade server. That is the lowest latency you can get.

This page used to recommend 4 cores and 8GB from a general-purpose host. That figure was really a way of buying around oversold hardware — on a provider that does not oversell, and that sits next to your broker, it buys nothing. Any host meeting those two conditions will do the job equally well.

It must be Windows, not Linux — MetaTrader 5 does not run on Linux without a compatibility layer we don't support, and a Linux VPS means starting the order again. Forex-specific hosts include the Windows licence; general-purpose ones usually default to Linux and sell Windows as a paid add-on, which is easy to miss. Take a longer billing term and leave auto-renew on: an expired VPS is switched off mid-cycle, with your positions still open and nothing managing them. Once it's up, connect with Remote Desktop — everything below happens on the VPS, not on your own machine.
FXVM — Windows VPS, forex datacentres →Download MT5 from metatrader5.com, the official MetaQuotes site, and log in with the account you are going to connect — your broker emailed you the server name when you opened it. Open a XAUUSD chart on M1. The EA is built for gold only, on a 2-digit broker.
Enter the MT5 account number under Connected EAs. That's all — there is no key to copy anywhere. The EA pairs itself with this account the first time it runs.
Open Connected EAs →Download InfinityAiProEA.ex5 from your dashboard. In MT5: File → Open Data Folder → MQL5 → Experts, and drop the file in there. Then right-click Expert Advisors in the Navigator panel and choose Refresh — the EA appears in the list. Nothing to compile and nothing to edit.
Download the EA →In MT5: Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → tick "Allow WebRequest for listed URL" and add https://api.infinityaipro.com. Skip this and MT5 silently blocks every licence check, so the EA will never start — this is the one setting people miss.
Drag the EA onto your XAUUSD chart and make sure Algo Trading is switched on in the toolbar. It pairs with your account on the first run — the Experts tab will say "account paired successfully", and the site shows the account as running within a few minutes.
Don't close MT5, don't shut down the VPS, and don't manually close positions the EA opened — it is managing them as one cycle. Log out of Remote Desktop instead of shutting the machine down.
The seven steps above take about twenty minutes the first time. If any of them lose you, there is no charge for help and no form to fill in.
